Summer in Yellowstone brings a broad photographic palette: grazing bison in open country, elk near the forest edge, distant mountain layers and geothermal color. This proposed tour pairs patient wildlife observation with deliberate landscape work. We are designing a route that considers long summer days, busy roads and the need to reach legal shooting areas without rushing between distant corners of the park.

We plan to explore environmental wildlife images that show an animal within its habitat, then shift to tighter compositions when a safe distance allows. Landscape sessions would examine layered valleys, steam against darker backgrounds and careful exposure in bright geothermal scenes. Early and late light can help us simplify busy scenes, while midday may support rest, review or selected details.
Bison and elk are central interests; bears and wolves would be photographed only if responsibly encountered. Valleys, mountains, rivers and permitted geothermal viewing areas give the landscape component its own purpose. We do not promise any animal, behavior, eruption or weather event.
Neal Nachman and Liz Stokes are developing small-group experiences around careful observation, personal field instruction and a fine-art perspective. We plan time to work a composition, respond to changing light and discuss camera technique. The final host team and group limit will be stated with the released itinerary and will depend on permits, transport and practical field conditions.
Wildlife welfare and care for the landscape shape our approach. We will use appropriate viewing distances, respect closures and other visitors, and avoid disturbing animals or sensitive habitat. The goal is thoughtful photography with room to learn, rather than a promise of a particular natural event.
The concept begins with orientation and a discussion of wildlife distances and road etiquette. Field days would alternate early wildlife observation with selected landscape sessions, allowing generous travel time and flexible breaks. A quieter detail session or image discussion may replace a crowded stop. Evening plans would respond to light and conditions rather than require a fixed circuit of named viewpoints.
This is a planning framework. Locations, session order and subjects may change for weather, wildlife activity, access, permits, road conditions, safety and photographic opportunity. No exact shooting stops or departure dates are confirmed.
Committed beginners, intermediate photographers and advanced photographers can express interest. Participants should be able to operate their own camera and carry the equipment needed for the final itinerary. Field guidance will address composition, exposure and technique, with time for individual questions. Tell us about your experience and walking considerations; exact terrain, distances, pace and accessibility will be described before reservations open.
Bring a telephoto lens for wildlife, a wide-to-normal zoom for landscapes and a camera you can adjust quickly. Spare batteries, memory cards, rain protection and a stable support are useful. Carry layers for cool mornings, sun protection and water. We will tailor the final gear list to the released route and walking requirements.
Summer traffic can make a short distance take much longer than expected. We will evaluate parking, safe stopping areas, road updates and commercial-use requirements before confirming the route. Geothermal photography stays on authorized paths and boardwalks. Wildlife has priority over any composition; long lenses do not replace required viewing distances or safe decisions.
