This winter workshop concept emphasizes accessible land-based field sessions, patient observation and photographs that show both behavior and habitat. Reflections and quiet environmental scenes provide useful opportunities alongside faster action, so the experience can remain rewarding even when a particular bird is absent.

Why Photograph Florida Winter Wetlands?

We would practice selecting autofocus settings for moving birds, choosing a shutter speed for action and keeping a clean background behind a subject. Slower sessions would explore reflections and the relationship between a bird and its wetland setting. Early light can guide our direction of view, while changing activity may prompt a different lens or composition.

What We Plan to Photograph

Wading birds, raptors and waterfowl are proposed interests, together with wetland vegetation, reflections and sunrise light. Species, behavior and numbers depend on season and conditions. We will work from authorized land-access locations and will not promise close encounters, nesting activity or a specific bird list.

The Artistic Creationz Approach

Neal Nachman and Liz Stokes are developing small-group experiences around careful observation, personal field instruction and a fine-art perspective. We plan time to work a composition, respond to changing light and discuss camera technique. The final host team and group limit will be stated with the released itinerary and will depend on permits, transport and practical field conditions.

Wildlife welfare and care for the landscape shape our approach. We will use appropriate viewing distances, respect closures and other visitors, and avoid disturbing animals or sensitive habitat. The goal is thoughtful photography with room to learn, rather than a promise of a particular natural event.

Planned Experience / Itinerary Concept

A proposed day begins with orientation and an early wetland session, followed by a break and practical review of exposure and focus choices. A later session would use another suitable land-access area or return to a productive location if conditions support it. The final number of days and specific operating wetlands are still being researched.

This is a planning framework. Locations, session order and subjects may change for weather, wildlife activity, access, permits, road conditions, safety and photographic opportunity. No exact shooting stops or departure dates are confirmed.

Who This Experience Is For

Committed beginners, intermediate photographers and advanced photographers can express interest. Participants should be able to operate their own camera and carry the equipment needed for the final itinerary. Field guidance will address composition, exposure and technique, with time for individual questions. Tell us about your experience and walking considerations; exact terrain, distances, pace and accessibility will be described before reservations open.

Recommended Gear

Bring a telephoto lens for birds, a standard zoom for habitat scenes and comfortable camera support. Sun protection, water, layers for cool starts and protection from insects or light rain are sensible preparations. Footwear and carrying guidance will reflect the selected boardwalks, paths or other authorized land-access areas.

Travel & Field Considerations

Water levels, bird activity, weather and temporary closures can alter wetland photography. We will verify each land manager’s commercial permissions, group limits and safe viewing areas. Paths and boardwalks vary in surface and exposure, so accessibility must be assessed for the final route. This workshop is entirely land-based with no boat excursions.

What Is Still Being Finalized?

We are researching the operating region, exact locations and backups, season, dates, duration, lodging, transportation, commercial permissions, local support, insurance and field safety. Does this workshop use boats?

No. It is land-based only, with no boats, pontoons or airboats.
